Stillwater is a dynamic, growing community of 16,000 residents nestled into the bluffs of the St. Croix River, one of America's protected Wild and Scenic Waterways. Located just 20 miles east of downtown St. Paul, Stillwater is a family-oriented community, offering the advantages and conveniences of living near the Twin Cities metropolitan area plus the peacefulness and safety of small town Minnesota. Excellent schools and a wide variety of recreational opportunities add to the high quality of life here in the St. Croix Valley.

Stillwater is often called "The Birthplace of Minnesota." Our state charter was drafted here in 1843. The valley is dotted with working century farms from Lake Elmo to Marine on St. Croix. The same mid-1800's homes and downtown built by the lumber barons of an earlier era are preserved today and serve as bed and breakfast inns, boutique and antique shops for today's visitors from all over the world. Great care is taken to preserve these historic buildings and parks. Many locations display "National Historic Site" plaques on their exteriors.

In winter, stark white snow crunches underfoot, the river ice heaves, cracks and booms, and the Northern Lights beckon us outdoors on crystal clear nights. In spring, thousands of migratory birds pay us a visit and grace our skies for a time. In summer, we flock to our beautiful St. Croix River in kayaks, canoes, and all manner of pleasure boats. In autumn, we exclaim at the beauty of the bluff line vista: our hardwood forests are brilliant in afternoon sun.

Stillwater has a unique charm that draws people back again and again. It is known for its fun and excellent restaurants from many ethnic backgrounds, elegant and informal alike.
